85, of Birmingham, died on Monday, November 27, 2006. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 30, 2006 from 11-12 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in his name to his son, Mike's Memorial Fund Michael Wood Logan Memorial Fund Fairfax County Special Education. (Special Olympics) Key Center School 6404 Franconia Road Springfield, VA 22150 Col. Logan was born in 1921 to Edward and Sadie Wood Logan in Sprott, Alabama and grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School, attended the University of Alabama and then joined the Alabama National Guard in 1937. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in 1940 and quickly became one of the youngest Major's at age 22 and served our country through WWII (Philippines) and Korea. He was on the army staff during Vietnam before retiring as a Colonel in 1970. He was awarded the Silver Star (1 cluster), the Bronze Star (3 clusters) for bravery, the Legion of Merit, Several Commendations, Airborne Badge and Combat Infantry Badge with one Star. The last 16 years, Col. Logan has lived in Birmingham where he helped start the Inverness Homeowners Association, served on the Shelby County Planning Commission, and was named one of the ten "Movers and Shakers" by the Birmingham News in 1990. He was a devoted husband, loving father to four boys, brother, and a wonderful grandfather (Big "O"). Col. Logan will be greatly missed. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Glennis Hutchins Logan; mother, Sadie Wood Logan; father, Ed O Logan; sister, Christine Logan Martin; son, Michael Wood Logan. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Edward Logan of Oregon, Dennis Logan (Cookie) of Birmingham, and David Logan (Diane) of California; brothers, E.W. Logan of North Carolina, Hilton Logan (Jane) of Birmingham; grandchildren, Brian Martin of Arizona, Ashley Blomeyer (Dustin), Whitney Logan and Blakely Logan all of Birmingham; great-grandsons, Logan Blomeyer, Hutchins Blomeyer and many, many dear friends.
