Claire Fells Clements, 72, of Montgomery, AL, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 18, 2022, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
Claire was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Kathleen Fells, and her brothers, Michael and Jimmy Fells. She is survived by her two sons, Brian (Christina) and Benjamin Cohn; her two grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Cohn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Debbie Fells.
Claire was born in Augusta, Georgia where she grew up on Anthony Road. She studied archaeology in college and spent time excavating at New Echota. She graduated with a teaching degree from Augusta College. She lived in Savannah, Georgia where she met her children’s father, Andrew Cohn. They married in Charleston, South Carolina where Brian and Benjamin were born. The boys have many fond memories of traveling with her to the beach and mountains as children. Claire was an avid reader. Early in life she enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, and fishing. Claire would tell anyone that would listen about her two “beautiful” grand children and the fun times she had visiting them. Claire never met a stranger.
Claire also leaves behind her lifelong friends Nancy (Ash) Searcy and Mary Dorothy Ford, who lived next door to her on Anthony Road, as well has her longtime friends Marge Shultz, Faye Miller, and Valerie Bess.
