CHESTER LEROY WHITED, JR., of Birmingham, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the age of 84. He and his wife, Mable Whited, were married on July 10, 1948. They had been married for 62 years. Chester's late parents were C.L. Whited, Sr. and Alberta Mae Whited. Survivors are his wife, Mable Whited, and his children, Chuck Whited (Jacqueline), Jeannie Davis, and Michael Whited (Lori). Also he leaves behind four grandchildren, Lane Davis, Jarrod Davis, Jennifer Davis, and Mia Whited. Mr. Whited was a Navy Veteran of WWII and served on the USS Lake Champlain CV39. He was in charge of communications and radar detection aboard the aircraft carrier of 3500 men. He was an accomplished athlete and baseball player at an early age. Recognized as an outstanding athlete, he had been invited to play for the Saint Louis Cardinals. Returning from the war, he attended and graduated from Birmingham Southern College, Class of 1950. Mr. Whited went on to become the Executive Vice President and Partner of Bradford and Company. He served on advisory boards for Mobile Oil, American Sugar, and Kingsford National accounts. He served on the Board for the National Food Brokerage Association. Mr. Whited served as President of Birmingham Food Sales Executive Club and on the Board of Directors for Alabama Wholesale Groceries. Numerous years he was awarded National Broker of the Year. He was active in community affairs with PTA, Civitans and Cahaba Heights Little League. Mr. Whited has been active in his church by serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of North Shelby Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM, Sunday, October 31, 2010, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 in Hoover. Funeral service will be at 1:30 PM, Monday, November 1, 2010, at North Shelby Baptist Church on Hwy 280, Rev. Alan Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to North Shelby Baptist Church.
