Chesteen Ballard

, of Birmingham, passed away on Thursday August 28, 2008 after a long illness. Chesteen was born February 1, 1923 in Starkville, MS. She was employed many years as a bookkeeper with Washer & Refrigerator Supply, dedicated over ten years of service with Women in Construction and later as a member and secretary of Grace Episcopal Church of Woodlawn. She was a longtime active member of Woodlawn Methodist Church and a compassionate volunteer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Morgan E. Ballard. She is survived by her sons, Morgan and Milton; four grandchildren, Lt. Col. Patrick Ballard, USAF, Erin McMurry, Branda Stovall and Tracey Bumpers; and seven great-granddaughters. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Highway 150, Hoover. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of their choice.
