Cheryl Hill

Hoover, Alabama

Cheryl Lynn Hill, 55, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at the UAB Palliative and Comfort Care Unit in Birmingham, Alabama, after a two-year battle with bile duct cancer.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 1, from 1-3 p.m. at the Homewood Church of Christ, 265 W Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, Alabama, 35209. The funeral service will follow immediately at the church at 3 p.m., with Bret Walters officiating.

Cheryl was a graduate of Fayette Academy (1987), held a B.S. in Home Economics and Family Studies from Freed-Hardeman University (1991), and an M.S. in Human Nutrition from the University of Alabama (1996).

From 1995 to 1998, she was a clinical and long-term care dietitian at the DCH Healthcare Authority in Tuscaloosa, Beverly Healthcare in Oneonta, and UAB Hospital; from 2017 to 2023, she was a dietitian at the Jefferson County Department of Health; and from 2013 to 2025, she was a travel specialist with Cruise Vacations and A Dream Away Travel.

Since 1996, Cheryl served on the Missions Committee and the Ladies Ministry at the Homewood Church of Christ, where she taught numerous Sunday School classes and was a shepherd's wife from 2019 to 2025. From 2003 to 2014, she was a parent volunteer at Gwin Elementary School and Simmons Middle School and a parent volunteer with the Hoover High School Band.

Her most important profession, however, was being a stay-at-home mother to her two daughters from 1998 to 2017.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dr. John Robert Hill, and daughters, Amelia Grace Hill and Emma Rose Hill; her parents, Walter Daniel Medley and Janet Blankenship Medley; her brother, David Allen Medley (Windy); and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Special thanks go to Drs. Darryl Outlaw, Neil Pfister, Dhaval Ravel, and Stephen Stair of UAB Medicine for their superlative care of Cheryl for the past two years.
