Cheryl Burkhalter

May 14, 1955 — October 11, 2024

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Cheryl Lynn Burkhalter, loving wife, devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on October 11, 2024. She was 69 years young.

Cheryl was born and raised in Eastlake, (Birmingham) Alabama. She was educated in the Birmingham Public School System, where she graduated from Banks High School, Class of 1974.

Cheryl grew up with her sisters, making friends around the neighborhood, enjoyed swimming and later working at Cascade Plunge. She met Michael in the Winter of 1975 and later married him in 1978. They were married for 46 years, raised their family and remained in the same home in Huffman, AL for 44 years.

Cheryl started her career in the banking industry at SouthTrust Bank in the mid 80's and continued her life's work in banking until the day she passed, this November would have been her 14th year with Cadence Bank as a Governance & Risk Analyst. All where she made so many life long friends along the way. We're not sure she would have ever retired.

Cheryl was a dedicated wife and mother first and foremost. She especially loved her role as Nonna, it was her biggest joy in life, she treasured her grandchildren and embraced every moment with them, making sure that they were spoiled. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends and cared deeply for them everywhere she went and her coworkers loved her as well.

Cheryl enjoyed coffee in the mornings, reading her favorite books, she liked going to the movies and eating popcorn, she took great pride in preparing wonderful, huge meals for her family at holiday gatherings, she was delighted to share her Summers filled with endless memories of "fun in the sun" entertaining family and friends at their lake house on Lay Lake. She looked forward to family reunions in Mississippi for the opportunity to visit with cousins and extended family.

She is Preceded by and joyously joined in Heaven with her parents Franklin "Earl" Fuller, Claudie "Marie" Fuller Sutherland (Alford), Stepfather Charles Sutherland, Grandson Bradyn Chase Dalton

She is survived by and was the Cherished wife of Michael R Burkhalter, The loving & devoted mother of Tricia "Trish" Dalton (Randy) and Yancy B Burkhalter, The Adored Nonna to Dalan R Dalton and Bralyn R Dalton, The Honorary daughter of Betty Jo Burchfield, The Dear Sister to Alice Morrison (Randy), Gail Fuller, Brenda Pitts (George), The Affable Aunt to Shane Bates, Daniel Morrison, Dianne Sutherland, Clayton Pitts.
