Charles Pierce

of Rocky Ridge, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2006, at the age of 75. Charlie was born and raised in Leeds, AL. He completed officers candidate school in Ft. Bening, GA in 1953 and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1958. He was employed for 31 years with U.S. Pipe/Jim Walter Resources and retired in 1991 as senior vice president of the Mining Division. Charlie received the Department of Mechanical Engineering Distinguished Fellow Award from the University of Alabama in 1996. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patsy Pierce; two sons, John William Pierce (Mary) and Bob Pierce (Kim); two grandsons, William Clayton and John Daniel Pierce; a granddaughter, Natalie Jane Pierce; a sister, Jean Pierce Thomason, of Charlotte, NC; and a niece Jane Johnsen, of CT. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Mike Wilkinson and Rev. Dick Brown officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the caring staff at Brookwood Medical Center and Amedisys Hospice Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home directing.
