Charles Collins, Sr

It is with sadness that we report the passing of our beloved father. He left this world peacefully to join his beloved wife of 58 years, Jane Greene Collins. Chuck was born to Charles Henry Collins and Anna Braasch in Chicago. He graduated from Lindblom High School (1940). He served the Army Air Corps during WWII in the North African and Italian theaters. Upon return to civilian life he moved to Birmingham and worked for Southern Bell Company. He married Jane at the Episcopal Church of the Advent (1946). Chuck and Jane raised their family in Rocky Ridge while Chuck earned his Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration from Howard College and UAB. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Telephone Company Pioneers, and numerous volunteer organizations. He retired from South Central Bell as Supervising Engineer (1983). Chuck and Jane stepped up their already active social and travel activities until Jane succumbed to a stroke. Chuck married the former Mary Maggard Ellison (2004) and resided in Vestavia for the remainder of his life.

Survivors include his son, Charles Benjamin Collins, Jr. (Atlanta); Patricia Jane Beard (Vestavia); Carolyn Ann Pocus (Chelsea); and five grandsons, Michael Austin Beard (Gardendale); Charles Brandon Beard (Asheville); Nathan Hughes Pocus (Shades Crest); Brian Everse Beard (Denver); Michael Collins Pocus (Birmingham); and four stepchildren, Gary Ellison (Atlanta); Donna West; Marlene Shealy; and Marcella Shepherd, the last three of Birmingham; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, 16 Dec from 1:00 to 2:00 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover and the service will follow in the Chapel. Chuck will be laid to rest beside his beloved Jane at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
