Mr. Charles Edward "Eddie" Burton, of Alabaster, AL, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at the age of 72. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. He served as an honor guard in the US Army from 1963 to 1966 and worked for 37 years as a forester for Union Camp and International Paper Co. "Pops" by all accounts lived his life to serve others. He began by serving in the U.S. Army and continued serving in many capacities. He inspired many lives as a youth baseball coach, booster club president, mentor and friend. He was infamously known as "Fast Eddie" for driving sports teams across the state and never missing a deadline. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Burton.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Molly Williams Burton, two sons, Ched Burton (Katrina) and Chris Burton (Kimberly), daughter, Lisa Savage (Tom), eight grandchildren, Jay, Alex, Lindsey, Gray and Parker Burton, Chris, Patrick and Zach Savage, great grandchild, Lily Savage, father, Charlie Rufus Burton, and brother, Bobby Burton.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 11, 2015, from 2:30 - 5 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, January 12, 2015, at 11 AM at Westwood Baptist Church with Reverend Rick Swing officiating. Interment will follow at 2 PM in Alabama National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Westwood Baptist Church, Building Fund Debt Relief, In Memory of Charles Burton, 1155 Alabaster Blvd, Alabaster, AL 35007.
