Charles William Brown passed peacefully through this life to his eternal home on December 22, 2024. Charles was born May 18, 1930, in Morgan Co., AL. He graduated from Falkville High School in 1949. He was 94.
Charles grew up in north Alabama and moved to Birmingham to work with family at Buchanan Construction. Shortly after arriving in Birmingham, he was set up on a blind date with Elois Gosa of Guin, AL. They went to Ed Salem's Drive-In on their first date. On June 2, 1956, he married Elois until her death in March 2021.
Charles served in the National Guard for three years. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1955. Charles was a Rear Steerman with the Birmingham City Fire Department, serving for 30 years. Simultaneously he held a second job as a full-time Driver for Walker Drug Company and covered Northern Alabama. He loved his customers, and they loved him. Together they raised two boys. They were members of Huffman Baptist Church and then Valleydale Baptist Church. Charles enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He loved hunting birds, boating at the lake, traveling, hiking, and watching Auburn football.
He was predeceased by his father Ernest Brown, his mother Mamie Hardage, his brothers Gene and Glenn Brown, and his sister Louise Chunn. He is survived by his two sons and their wives Darryl Brown (Jennifer) of Homewood, AL, and Barry Brown (Cheryl) of Vestavia Hills, AL, his grandchildren Anna Grace, Beau, Reed, and Connor and several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Saturday, December 28 at 10 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.
Thank you to all the caregivers who cared for him so lovingly. We will greatly miss him!
