Charla Cordell Evans, went to be with her Lord Thursday, August 6, 2020, at the age of 86. She passed peacefully at home. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and true friend to all that knew her. She graduated from Dora High School and later joined the United States Air Force where she served two years of service as a Communications Specialist. After her honorable military discharge, she had a 30-year career with the telephone company, a switchboard operator with South Central Bell and retired as a Communications Specialist with AT&T. Later, she returned to work as a switchboard operator at Rust Engineering where she retired for the second time. She was a member of Alabaster Church of God. She was a devout Christian with a true servant’s heart. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, W.C. “Bill” Evans; parents, Dee and Etta Cordell; sister, Helen Fullman; and five brothers, Cleo “Mutt” Cordell, Dover Cordell, Eulas “Bart” Cordell, Shulas “Tootie” Cordell, and Douglas “Doug” Cordell.
She is survived by her son, Shawn Evans (Denise) of Cullman; daughter, Melody Evans Ouellette (Ray); grandchildren, Clay Evans, Rose Cavender, Crista Graham (Raymond), and Morgan Cavender; sister, Bonnie Goodwin (Ferril); and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm in the chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
Her family would like to thank Affinity Hospice and the numerous caregivers, most especially, Susie Cobbins and Estella McCray.
