On Monday, November 18, 2013, Mrs. Catherine Krause Keeney, beloved wife of the late Grafton E. Keeney, passed away from natural causes. She was the cherished mother of Michael, Robert and wife Barbara, Marsha Henderson and husband David, Donald, Brian, Scott and husband Frank Graves; grandmother of Michael John, Calvin, Drew, Daniel, Stephen, Noah Henderson and wife Amber, Rynnie Henderson, Jordan and Elizabeth. She was the beloved sister of the late Charles, Reba, Elbert Jr., Ida, Rose, Esther and Samuel.
Catherine was born and raised in Baltimore and received her college degree from the Westhampton College of the University of Richmond in 1949. After she and Grafton were married in 1951, they lived in Kentucky and Virginia before moving back to Baltimore in 1960. She remained in Baltimore until 2004 when she and Grafton moved to Birmingham, AL.
Catherine had a wide range of interests and talents, the first being her passion for art. She expressed herself through painting and had a particular love of the works of Georgia O'Keefe. Additionally, she enjoyed playing games of all kinds and could always be found in the middle of the family card games. Finally, Catherine was able to fulfill her dream of finishing her seminary degree.
Memorial Service to be held Friday, November 29, 2013 at 1 PM Central Time at the Baptist Church of the Covenant, 2117 University Boulevard, Birmingham, Alabama 35233, with visitation to follow at the church. Memorials can be made to the charity of your choice.
