Carroll Burt McVea died peacefully on Thursday, July 2, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bogalusa, LA on May 30, 1929 to Lois Wertz McVea and Truman Charles McVea. Burt served our country for 20 years (10 years in the Air Force and 10 years in the Navy). He attended West End High School and worked for Tieco for 20 plus years.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Hydinger McVea; children, Carroll Burt McVea, Jr., Mark McVea, Rick Scholl, Sheri Scholl Salmon (Mark), and Dawn Scholl Hoffman (Jerry); grandchildren, Jimmy McVea, David McVea, Matthew McVea, Clay Jones (Courtney), Lauren Jones, Samantha Salmon, and Hunter Salmon; loving surviving sister, Ginger McVea Sharbel; brother Chuck McVea (Trudy); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and T.C. McVea.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. He brought joy to so many and loved dancing, hunting, fishing, and diving.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 8, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL, from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service to begin at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in Burt's name be made to Birmingham Southern College, PO Box 549003, Birmingham, AL 35254.
