Carolyn Mcbrayer

Mrs. Carolyn Shumaker McBrayer, 85, of McCalla, AL received her eternal reward on August 25, 2021. Carolyn spent her life in service to her creator. She worked at the Church of God state office for 30 years. She was a member of the South Park Church of God and played the piano for many years. Her greatest honor was having her son as her pastor. She fiercely loved her family and friends. She was loved, admired, and respected by all who knew her. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Jimmy R. Shelton, Norman E. (Tommy) Shumaker, and Walter McBrayer; son, Randal Keith Shelton; parents, Herman H. Poe and Eunice (Bubba) Poe; brother, Norman Poe; and nephew, Norman (Tut) Poe.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth R. Shelton (Sandy); daughter, Donna Shelton Smith; daughter-in-law, Olivia (Libby) Shelton; grandchildren, Kristi, Heath (Scott), Josh Shelton (April), Cassie Peterson (Matthew), April Shelton, Megan Smith, and Andrew Smith.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. The service will begin from the funeral home chapel at 11:00am with Reverend H.E. LaFevor, Reverend Ruby Blackwood, and Reverend Kenneth Shelton officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Birmingham, AL.
