Carolyn Denson Channon, 83, born Feb 24, 1930 in Opelika AL, was a long time resident of Virginia Beach, VA, and two year resident of Galleria Woods, Hoover, AL, died Nov. 16, 2013. She was the daughter of Nimrod Davis Denson and Elizabeth Rush. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, David Channon, and her brother, Charles Rush Denson. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Colonel Robert Irving Channon, three children, Robert I. Channon Jr. (Mardelle), of Maryland, Mary Beth Channon Howell (Donald), of Virginia, and Carolyn Channon Culwell of Birmingham, AL; two brothers Nimrod Davis Denson III of Miami FL, John Vernon Denson (Rose Anne) of Opelika, AL and one sister Elizabeth Denson Lipscomb of Auburn, AL; and her six grandchildren, David Channon, William Channon, Sarah Howell, Carrie Culwell and twins Davis and Alex Culwell. Carolyn graduated from Opelika High School, attended Agnes Scott College for one year and graduated from Auburn University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She loved playing bridge, going to the beach, watching sports and cheering for Auburn. She was a trusted and caring friend. Services will be held Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hoover, AL. Visitation will be at 10:00 am and service will be at 11:00 am. Burial will be at 2:45 pm in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to local animal shelters or childhood cancer research or The Wounded Warrior Project.
