Bruce Montgomery, a loving husband, father and grandfather, deacon of thirty-five years, and structural engineer, died on Friday, June 18, 2021, at his home in Birmingham, AL. He was 65.
He was the embodiment of the servant-hearted person Philippians chapter two commands us all to be. He was the man you called in the middle of the night when your car broke down, your basement flooded, or you needed comfort after a tragedy. He was the man who had the keys to the church, the school, and the ball field. He was the man behind the scenes cleaning or unlocking or fixing the problem.
He was skilled but humble, intense but kind, brilliant, hilarious. He was strength delicately restrained.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Doris; his parents-in-law, James and Evelyn; and his cousin, David.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jan; his children, Mark, Scott, Jamie, Kreg, and Beth; his grandchildren, Cedar, Maisie, Smith, and Knox; his brother-in-law, Tony; his aunt and uncle, Nancy and Frank; his cousins, James and Missy; and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 21, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Philadelphia Baptist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, in Hoover.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mountain Brook Community Church Youth Building Fund, www.mbcc.us/growingcommunity
