April 16, 1974 — April 26, 2025

Brian Gene Whitley, age 51, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, April 26th.

Born on April 16, 1974, in Atlanta, Georgia, Brian was the beloved son of Gene Hershel Whitley and Brenda Laverne Whitley.

Brian graduated as Valedictorian of Social Circle High School in 1992 and went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he earned his degree in Management Information Systems.

He began his professional career with Diversified Computer Solutions in Atlanta and later worked with Videolarm,Inc., excelling as an IT consultant and partner. Throughout his career, Brian formed lifelong friendships and was highly respected by colleagues. In recent years, he served as an IT Manager with Moog, Inc., continuing to work with dedication and passion until just days before his passing.

On July 31, 1999, Brian married Margaret Hamilton in Thomasville, Alabama. Though the marriage ended in 2016, it brought him his two greatest blessings-his children, Will and Maggie.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Brian was a devoted fan of all things Atlanta and Georgia. His love for his teams was contagious, and he shared that enthusiasm with everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Those who knew Brian best remember him for his intelligence, kindness, humility, and unwavering strength. He lived by the belief that "character is what you do when no one is watching," and by that standard, Brian was a man of remarkable character. Whether through quiet acts of generosity, steadfast loyalty to his loved ones, or the integrity with which he approached his work and life, Brian consistently demonstrated the values he held dear. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his honesty, humor, and deep love for his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Maggie Whitley and Will Whitley of Birmingham, Alabama; his parents, Gene and Brenda Whitley of Jersey, Georgia; his brother, Kyle Whitley, and sister-in-law, Kayce Mauldin Whitley, both of Social Circle, Georgia; his nieces, Kendall and Kayla Whitley; and his nephew, Hamilton Huggins of Grove Hill, Alabama. Brian also leaves behind many beloved family members and close friends across Alabama and Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Paul (Annie Viola) Whitley of Jersey, Georgia, and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Palmer (Dorothy) of Atlanta, Georgia.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 4th, at 1:00 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home and Gardens in Hoover, Alabama.
