Brenda Barnett

Mrs. Brenda J. Barnett, of Vestavia, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at the age of 70. She was a member of Metropolitan Church of God. She taught 1st grade at West Hills School in Bessemer, AL before retiring, and loved her students. More than anything she loved being with her family, going on an all girls trip along with grandson, Ryke, to Gatlinburg and going for two weeks every year to Gulf Shores State Park, with her children and grandchildren coming and staying a few days. When they left she would stand there crying as they drove off. She took care of her mother for the last five years of her mother's life, not knowing, this same disease would take her down the same road. Losing her leaves a void in our lives and a hurt in our hearts, but we will never lose the memories of all she was to us, a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She is now receiving her rewards, no pain, no tears, only a good life in Heaven.
She was preceded in death by her parents, AJ and Evelyn Bailey and a brother, Tommy.
She is survived by her husband, of 54 years, James W. Barnett, two daughters; Sonya B. Mull (Bill) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Pam Barnett of Auburn, AL, one son, Bryan W. Barnett (Cheryl) of Trussville, AL, five grandchildren; Ryke, Kelsey, Bryan, McKinley, and Macy, two great grandchildren; Daniel and Kane, two brothers, Jerry and Jimmy, one sister, Linda, and other special people in her life, her brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Debbie Barnett of Huntsville, AL.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 10, 2014, from1-2 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2 PM with Reverend Harold Kelley and Reverend Wes Barnett officiating. Interment will be Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
