Born on March 29, 1941 in West Point GA. Bob departed this life on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the age of 75. Bob was raised in Lanett, Alabama, and he pursued his education at Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, graduating from the College of Pharmacy in 1963. During his college years he played football for Howard under the expert coaching of Bobby Bowden. Bob was an extraordinary loving husband, father, mentor and friend. Bob's exceptional professional career began at Mobile Infirmary Hospital where he was the Director of Pharmacy for the majority of his 39 years employed. He was well known by all who crossed his path as a superb mentor, boss, and father figure. The true measure of his leadership was how he helped those around him. Bob encouraged the improvement of all his family and employees, motivating them to further their education. Following his retirement, Bob was employed by Walgreens Pharmacy. Bob served a 5-year term on the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy serving as President of the Board. He also embraced the position as President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Mobile County, the Alabama Pharmacy Association, Alabama Hospital Pharmacy Association, and the Southeastern Society of Hospital Pharmacists. He also served on committees for the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the American Pharmaceutical Association. He was recipient of the Preceptor of the Year award presented by Auburn University College of Pharmacy. Bob was on the Board of Directors of the Samford University College of Pharmacy for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian LeCroy Short and Grady J. Short, and his brother, Billy Tyrone Short. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his children, Tracy Lynn of Pensacola, FL, Leigh Anne Herman (Kevin) of Partlow, VA, Robert Eric (Wendy) of Mobile, AL, Gerick (Kelly) of Evanston, IL, and Ryan (Joan) of Birmingham; his 7 grandchildren, Cayley, Darby, Jackson, Garrett, Henry, Merrill and Gavin, all of whom brought so much joy to his life.
A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Hoover, AL, on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Visitation 9:30-10:30AM. Service will begin at 10:30.
