of Birmingham passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008 from cancer at the age of 83. He was born in Bell, Florida on July 14, 1925 to King Harvey and Ida Wilkerson. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After over forty years in Gainesville, Florida where he worked and retired with Southern Bell Telephone Company after 33 years of service, he and his wife moved to Birmingham, Alabama. Bob especially loved and spent many hours gardening as well as helping his children with home projects. As an amazing husband, father, and grandfather, he lived a life that inspired his family and everyone who knew him. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Theresa Wilkerson; two sons, Robert Wilkerson (Wendy) of Alexandria, Virginia and Jimmie Wilkerson (Linda) of Atlanta, Georgia; his daughter, Karen Braune (Fred) of Birmingham, Alabama; six grandchildren, Kris, Kim, Jill, Kellie, Katie and Jeff; two great-grandchildren, Keegan and Ansley; a sister, OraBelle Henry of Petersburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, 2008 from 12-2 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Highway 150, Hoover. Graveside service will follow at 2 pm in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wheeling for Hope, P. O. Box 660254, Birmingham, Alabama 35266, a non-profit organization benefiting adult and pediatric brain tumor research at UAB and Children's Hospital in memory of Bob Wilkerson.
