Billy Fred McCord of Pelham, AL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the age of 91 with his family surrounding him. He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Ann Wilder McCord; son Tim McCord and his daughter Natalya McCord; daughter Melanie Moore (Ed) and their daughters Rebecca Norman (Blake) and Haley Moore; daughter Barbara Flowers and her daughter Ashley Shipman (Heath) and great-granddaughter Olivia Grace Shipman; and aunt Chella Daniel Laney. Bill and Ann were married for 66 years in June of 2022.

One of three sons of the late Virgil and Inez Daniel McCord, Bill was born in Newell, AL on September 30, 1931. His brothers Mac and Gerald McCord preceded him in death. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War, and later became a machinist, retiring from American Cast Iron Pipe Company in Birmingham in 1992. Bill was a member and served as a deacon at Roebuck Park Baptist Church for many years. More recently, he was a member of Valleydale Church in Birmingham.

Bill was a patient, loving, and faithful husband, as well as a strong father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Quick to laugh and quicker to love, he was treasured by his family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of encouragement and strength.

A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10:15 a.m., with Reverend Ross Robinson presiding. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations to the American Heart Association or the Alabama Alzheimer’s Association be considered in Bill’s honor.
