Billie Strickland Cost, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016, in her Vestavia Hills, AL home, at the age of 82, after an extended illness. Originally from Fair Bluff, North Carolina, Mrs. Cost is preceded in death by her parents, Delmas and Treva Strickland, as well as her brother, Douglas Strickland.
Billie is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Ted Martin Cost, who she met while he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. After completing military service, the couple returned to Alabama were Billie worked to support the family as a librarian at the University of Alabama and Ted finished studies at the Capstone. After graduation, the couple settled in Birmingham where Ted held the post of Treasurer at Thomas Foundry for 22 years while Mrs. Cost continued her career as a loving and passionate Pre-School teacher at Jewel Falkner and later Shades Mountain Baptist Day Care.
Billie is also survived by her brother-in-law, Larry Cost (Birmingham); sister-n-law, Lurla Harris (Huntsville); 5 nieces, 2 nephews and countless other children she taught and touched as a pre-school teacher.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Hospice Services of Alabama and specifically nurses, Teresa Hudspeath and Fannie Boswell, for the amazing care given to Mrs. Cost during her last days.
Funeral Services will be held at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Highway 150 in Hoover, on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Visitation begins at 1 pm followed by services at 2 pm.
