Betty Ann Bowles

Betty Ann Grace Bowles was born in Birmingham, AL to William M. H. and Lula McCary Grace. She was a great granddaughter of Baylis Earle Grace and granddaughter of Francis Mitchell Grace, D.D., both early pioneers of this area. Betty retired from Carraway Methodist Medical Center where she was known as "Mother Bowles." Since her retirement, she was active in many things: Magic City Clowns, where she was known as "Dottie Delight" and "Sweet Tea", a Volunteer with the "Pink Ladies" at Shelby Baptist  Hospital,  the American Village, and was a member of the South City Theater and the Keen Agers at her church, First United Methodist Church of Alabaster. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Samuel J. Bowles, Jr..

She is survived by 3 sons, Samuel J. Bowles, III, SSG (Ret) (Mary Frances), Lawrence Edward Bowles and David M. Bowles, LTC (Ret), (Abigail); a daughter, Donna Bowles Shea, (Daniel) LTC (Ret); 8 grandchildren, Amber Bowles (Amanda Jones), Mary Teer (Robbie), Kristen Hangey (John), Emily Oast (Travis), Amanda and John Shea, and Peyton and Lila Bowles; 5 great grandsons; and a great granddaughter.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, March 6, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Pkwy, Hoover, AL, and also on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gary Formby officiating. Entombment will be in the Abbey Mausoleum at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, Hoover, AL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association @ alzfdn.org or donations may be mailed to the Alzheimer's Association home office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
