Bessie Blacknall

92, was born May 7, 1918 and went to be with the Lord Sept. 24, 2010. She loved her family and always believed in hard work. If you had driven down Hagood Street in the last year you may have seen Bessie on her riding lawn mower cutting her grass. She was a member of Cahaba Heights Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George. She is survived by a son, David (Merry); a daughter, Mary Ann Rice; one brother, K.T. Whitlock; one sister, Pearline Essex; 2 granddaughters, Kristen (Chris) Carver and Caroline (Jason) Wingett; 2 great grandchildren, Sarah Frances and Annabelle; and numerous relatives all who loved her dearly. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, from 2-3 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Service to follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wayne Wright officiating.
