Bartie Sue Moorhead Acton, 88, of Cahaba Heights, AL, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones on May 29, 2024. She attended Ramsay High School where she met the love of her life, Ganes Michael "Mike" Acton. They were married for 58-1/2 years. She was born in Carrollton, AL and raised in McShan, AL and Birmingham, AL. Bartie loved being a homemaker, raising her children and volunteering in the community. She began a 30-year career as an administrative assistant at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in 1979. Bartie was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Bartie was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. Her greatest accomplishment was her family and the love and pride she had for them.
She is survived by her children: Tammy Pope (Willie), Michele Blackburn (Bill), Shayne Acton (Angela), and Kelley Whatley (Howard); seven grandchildren: Coleman Pope, Morgan Pope Milstead (Andy), Mallory Pope Stewart (Nathan), Trey Whatley (Nellie), Autumn Acton, Thomas Whatley (Jessica), and Hunter Acton; four step-grandchildren: Bill Blackburn (Melissa), Jessica Hall, Daniel Blackburn (Meghan), and Lindsey Justice (John); four great-grandchildren: John William Milstead, Jack Everett Milstead, Anna Claire Whatley, and Ganes Stewart; and nine step-great grandchildren: Will Blackburn, Ryleigh Hall, Judson Hall, Reece Anne Hall, Grey Blackburn, Henry Blackburn, Banks Justice, Jones Justice, and Birdie Justice; her sister, Daisy Perrigin; many nieces and nephews and twelve grand dogs. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ganes Michael Acton; her parents, Ira and Sarah Ellen Moorhead and her sister, Shirley Simpson.
The family will receive friends at 9:00 AM on Friday, June 7, 2024 in the Chapel at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM, Dr. Gary Fenton and Pastor Tommy Sanders officiating. Graveside service to follow at Acton Memorial Cemetery located at 4660 Caldwell Mill Road, Birmingham, AL 35243. The family would like to thank and extend their deepest gratitude to Regency Retirement Village, 4 Main UAB Highlands Hospital, M&N Angel Care Services, and ACG Hospice for their care, love and support.
