B. Hendrix

Mr. B. J. "Bill" Hendrix, age 84, of Hoover, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. He was a member of the Dawson Memorial Baptist Church serving over the years as a Sunday School teacher, usher, and greeter along with participating in disaster relief locally and nationally to build and rebuild houses and churches. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy as a public information officer at various recruiting stations. After the war, he graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Business Administration and attended the Birmingham School of Law ultimately retiring as a medical manufacturer's representative. During his latter years, he served as Chief Inspector at the polls at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, was a member of the Alabama Silver-Haired Legislature serving as the Chairman of the Jefferson County Delegation, and in 2010 he was inducted as a permanent member into the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lether and Marie Hendrix and his sister, Majorie Cross. He is survived by his wife, Rita Buehler Hendrix; daughter, Sherri Lynn Horton (Buck) of Vestavia Hills, grandchildren Lindsey Sway (Rob) and Bradley Horton; step-son, Scot C. Buehler of Hoover; grandchildren Leila Parish (Shane) and Christen Buehler; sister, Fredia A. Guthrie of Gardendale; and brother, Willis H. Hendrix (Shirley) of Pelham. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 2, 2016, from 10-11 AM at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Interment with military honors will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dawson Memorial Baptist Church or The American Cancer Society.
