Mr. Arthur McDonald (Mac) Jones, of Hoover, AL passed away on April 14, 2012 at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his son, Arthur McDonald Jones, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Trudy Canant Jones; daughters: Sally Jones Gay (Noah), and Robin Jones Whitesides (Rob) of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren: Mason and Laura Kathryn Gay, Andrew, Alex, Ellie, and Caroline Whitesides, and Emma Towner Jones of Huntsville, AL; brothers: H. Thomas Jones, III (Gail) of Jacksonville, FL, and J. Phillip Jones of Memphis, TN, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mac was born on August 26, 1947 to Ethel and Henry Jones of Hattiesburg, MS. He was reared in Columbus, MS where he graduated from Stephen D Lee High School in 1965. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Mississippi State University in 1969 and was a Certified Public Accountant. He began his career with Arthur Andersen & Co. in New Orleans, LA and then spent the majority of his career with Bruno's, Inc./Big B, Inc. In recent years, he was an entrepreneur working currently as the Chairman and CEO of MedWorks RX, LLC. Mac was a Deacon, past Chairman of Deacons, and Trustee of Shades Crest Baptist Church where he also served in many other leadership roles. He was involved in his community serving on the Board of Directors, Past Chairman of the grants oversight committee, and Past Chairman of the Allocation Committee of the United Way of Central AL. He served as Chairman of the Auburn University Pharmacy School Advisory Council and was a member of the Senior Executive Advisory Board of the College of Business at Mississippi State University. He was past Board member of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, and Boy Scouts of America. He was a member and past President of the Birmingham Venture Club and was a 1994 graduate of Leadership Birmingham. Mac was a proud Veteran of the US Army, serving as an Officer at Fort Benning, Columbus, GA. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 18 from 6-8 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover. A celebration of his life will be held in the Currie-Jefferson Chapel Thursday morning at 10 AM with Reverend Denis Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Found Faithful Fund at Shades Crest Baptist Church.
