Arlene Wells

January 1, 1937 — August 10, 2013

Arlene Wells departed this life on Saturday, August 10, 2013 to be with her Lord Jesus Christ forever. She was my mother, friend, and a friend to all who knew her. She will be missed by her family and friends. However, our loss is Heaven's gain. She was 76 years old, survived by one daughter, Robbyn L. Wells; 3 precious boys (her shih tzus), Jeremiah-Faith, Jericho-Hope, and Jonah-Love; and one grand goddaughter, Mona L. Leith. She was blessed with a special gift of a friend who became the son she never had, Dr. David Fuller, and with him his beautiful family, Mimi, Elizabeth, Katherine, Joseph, and Thompson; her brother, Grady (Billy-pud) Wells and wife Margaret C. Wells, and many beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and employees. She is preceded by her parents, Jack and Eloise Wells; sisters, Caroline Wells, Jackie W. Williams, and Margaret W. Payne; and brothers, Dorsey Wells and Thomas (Sonny) Wells. Arlene was born in Tupelo, Mississippi and moved to McCalla, Alabama, where she grew up and attended McAdory School. After moving to Hueytown and later Hoover, Alabama, she and her daughter returned to McCalla, Alabama to be surrounded by her family, who meant so much to her. Arlene spent 40 years in management for the Woolworth Company and Gibson Greeting Cards. With her daughter, she also shared ownership of Wells of Beauty in Hoover, Alabama. Her love and support for animals led her to create her legacy, an organization for animals less fortunate through Hope Animal Clinic in Bessemer, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 Hoover. Funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Thursday, August 15, 2013, in the funeral home chapel, Dr. David Fuller and Brother Keith Ellis officiating. Entombment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. Flowers and donations are appreciated. Donations can be made to No Animals Left Behind (contact: Heather at BancorpSouth, 205 822-2566).
