Annette Veazey

May 29, 1941 — February 8, 2022

Linda Annette Veazey, 80, died February 8, 2022, at her home in Hoover, Alabama. Annette was born May 29, 1941, to James and Dee Cummings Veazey of the Isabella community in Chilton County Alabama.

Throughout her life, Annette was known for her hard work, kindness, and her musical passion and talent. As a young woman, she was Valedictorian of her 1959 class at Isabella High School and also performed as the pianist for the Veazey trio, a gospel singing group. She attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and was a member of the homecoming court. She was featured in the Birmingham News to promote the Alabama-Tennessee game in the early 1960s. This news article led to a chance meeting with Clark Veazey due to the coincidence of sharing the same last name. Annette and Clark married in 1964 and had two children, Clark and Linda. For many years, she successfully balanced raising a family, volunteering with the church and other organizations, and having a highly successful career in international banking. Annette worked for multiple banks in Alabama and Rhode Island and retired from Regions Bank as the Vice President of Operations for International Banking. Throughout her life, she also served as an accompanist for weddings, funerals, and multiple singing groups. She was known for her southern gospel style and incredible ear for music. It was a great joy for her to play for people whenever and wherever she could. In her retirement, she played for the Songbirds and for the Celebration Singers, performing in churches and nursing homes in the Birmingham area. She was also known for her ability to plan events, including her work in the planning of the 200th anniversary of Mulberry Baptist Church. She was a long-time, devoted member of Shades Crest Baptist Church.

Annette was the second youngest of four children and is survived by her husband, Clark Veazey, her son Clark Veazey, Jr., her daughter Dr. Linda Veazey and her husband, Drew Conklin, and her late brother’s wife, Dorothy Veazey. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, extended family, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Novie Bray and her husband, Roy Bray, her sister Mary Nell Poland and her husband Harold Poland, and her brother Robert (Bobby) Veazey.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Shades Crest Baptist Church at 425 Park Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama. The memorial service will follow the visitation at 2:00 pm, also at Shades Crest Baptist Church.
