Ann York

d. June 7, 2007

devoted Christian and Mother, passed away June 7, 2007, after an extended illness. Born in Erin, Tennessee, she later moved to Detroit, Michigan where she met and married her beloved husband, James Earl York. The York family later moved to the Washington D.C. area, and then again transferred to the Hoover/Vestavia Hills area 32 years ago. Mrs. York set a new standard with her faithful devotion to the Lord and her service to Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School Class Director for the past 30 years. Her other activities included singing with the Dawsonaires church choir, participating in the Homebound ministry, and visiting with residents of area nursing homes. She also held administrative assistant positions with a local State Farm agent, Johnson, Rast & Hays, and finally with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Mrs. York was the ultimate parent, friend and neighbor. She was always eager to help, encourage, smile, cook, spend time with family and friends, and above all, brag about her 10 grandchildren. She was a powerful and positive force in the lives of her family and will be undeniably missed. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved "Juana". She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. York; her parents, Robert Daniel McMillan, Sr. and Bertha Sarah McMillan; and a brother, Robert Daniel McMillan, Jr. She is survived by 2 sons, Kevin D. York (Pat) and Kenneth B. York (Elizabeth); 3 daughters, Karen York Rosenow (Brian), Karyl York Gardner (Eddy) and Kristin York Ramsey; 10 grandchildren, James, Phillip, Pam, Kasey, Kaitlyn, Bobby, Austin, Karrie, Becky and Anna; and a brother, Billy Burke McMillan. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 9, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy. 150, Hoover. Funeral services will be on Sunday, June 10, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Gary Fenton officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Hospices of America, Birmingham, AL. The family would like to offer our heartfelt appreciation to Drs. John Farley and Greg James for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank the staff of Community Hospices of America, especially Susan, Amy, Jennifer, Ray and Craig for their professionalism, compassion and care.
