Former Birmingham, AL resident Anne Ferguson Hardy, 90, went home to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ February 18, 2008, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Jim Farrow in Carmel Valley, CA. A time of visitation with the family will be held at Shades Crest Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL on February 23, 2008 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm, followed by a memorial service conducted by Dr. Dennis Foust at 2:00pm and a brief graveside service at Jefferson Memorial Gardens,South. Anne was a charter member of Shades Crest, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Anne was born May 03, 1917 in Collirene, AL to Claudius Greene Rives III and Pearl McLendon Rives. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florence State Teachers College in 1938, and from the University of Alabama in 1957 with a Masters degree in English. Anne married James H. Ferguson of Jasper, AL in April 1943. She and Jimmy had one son, James H. Ferguson, Jr. in 1946. She taught typing, shorthand, and English for over 20 years at Jones Valley High School. Several years after Jimmy's death in 1963, she married a childhood friend, Ralph Hardy, and moved to Selma, AL, where she lived until his death in 1985. She then moved back to Birmingham to live with her greatly loved sister, Lois Rives Johnson. In 2003 they moved to Carmel Valley, CA to live with Dr. and Mrs. Jim Farrow, who loved and cared for her as if she was their own mother. Anne is survived by her sister Lois Rives Johnson, her brother Claudius Greene Rives IV, her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. James H. Ferguson, her grandson, his wife, and two great granddaughters, Jim and Shani Ferguson and their daughters Illit and Lahav, and her granddaughter Amy Lynn Ferguson.
