of Hoover, passed Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at the age of 23. She was a 2004 graduate of Hoover High School and was a former volleyball player, scholar and a recipient of the Bob Finley Character Award at Hoover High School. She attended Emory University where she was a member of the Rowing Team. She studied abroad in Spain at the University of Salamanca. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Joan W. Dorough, her paternal grandparents, Jeff and Mary Lou Carlton, and her best friend and college roommate, Sarah Graves. She is survived by her parents, her mother, Bonnie Dorough Borden of Homewood, and her father, Jeff Carlton (Cheri) of Birmingham; two brothers, Jay Carlton (fiancee, Wendy Short) of Madison and Kyle Carlton (Erin) of Calera; a niece, Ann Kaitlyn; her fiance, Michael Christopher of Hoover; a grandfather, James H. Dorough of Homewood; and a host of loving aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 27, 2009, from 5-7 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Fenton and Rev. Lee M. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. The family wishes to thank her donor family for the gift of their loved one's donated heart that gave her five years of memories and opportunities. Also, special thanks to her HTICU family at UAB.
