Anita Long

Anita P. Long, 82

Resident of Pelham, Alabama went to be with her Heavenly Father on January 04, 2025, with her family beside her. We lost our Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. 

She was born in Lucedale, Mississippi to the late Claude and Wilma Polk. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Jones and her brother, Tommy Polk along with several nieces and nephews. 

Preceded in death by her sisters, Claudia Lattof and Kathy Eslava along with her brother, Mike Polk.

To know Anita or as most folks just called her Nita, would keep you on your toes and challenge your wit. She was talented and creative in so many ways, a successful business woman owning a professional hair salon. She always felt like it was her responsibility to pass on her talents and business savvy to her family and future generations. She did it well and we are all better off having known her. She loved cutting hair and did so up until just a few months ago. I guess you can say that retirement was over rated for her. She got up every day to tackle the world and always had a purpose. 

In her many details on how she wanted her final services to go was placing scissors and a comb with her just in case her Heavenly Father needed a little trim off the top. She said, “wouldn’t that be the best haircut ever.” 

She is survived by her sons, Mark Steven Long (wife, Teresa Long) and Scott Alan Long (wife, Susan Long) Grandchildren: Ashley Mims (husband Kellen Mims), Victoria Seales (husband Derrick Seales), Scarlett Smith (husband, Walker Smith) Melanie Ezell (husband, Matthew Ezell), Seth Long along with 4 great grandsons.

Memorial service will be at Currie- Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. on Wednesday Jan. 8th at 10:00am Visitation at 9:00 am. Graveside will be held at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Lucedale, Mississippi on Jan. 9th at 1:00pm.
