Andrea Luckett

May 16, 1969 — December 4, 2024

On December 4, 2024, Andrea Villette Luckett, was summoned home by the Lord after a valiant fight to survive cancer. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Mr. & Mrs. Henry and Barbara Luckett. Her entry into the world did not come without a fight. She was born prematurely and endured a three week stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Andrea was christened into the Kingdom of Faith at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. She deepened her faith and biblical study at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon returning to Birmingham, she held membership at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church where she enjoyed participating in her mother's Sunday School class.

Andrea's early childhood education began in the District of Columbia, Texas and continued in Shreveport, Louisiana public school system. She was always a daddy's girl and during this time, she became a protective but fun-loving big sister to Akina. Upon her move to Alabama, she flourished in the Birmingham public school system and graduated from Fairfield High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems at DeVry University in Atlanta, Georgia and completed a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. She was a volunteer and supportive of local community organizations. Andrea adored her nieces, Autumn, Allyson (deceased), and Ariel.

Andrea was an avid reader and gained her love of travel at a young age. During the summer, she traveled by plane with little sister and cousins, Sherri and Bianca, in tow to visit family. Her adventurous spirit prompted her curiosity and exploration of various states and countries: completed a marathon in Hawaii, whale watching in Alaska, snorkeled and swam the crisp blue waters of the Caribbean, and took a two-week road trip starting in St. Louis going west along historic Route 66. Her travels led her to tour historical sites and museums in London, Scotland, Ireland, and Paris. She had booked a bucket list trip to Ghana for December 2024 prior to receiving her cancer diagnosis.

Andrea returned home and began her Emergency Communications career with the Birmingham Police Department. She accepted a position with the City of Hoover and began a 25 year career becoming the first African American dispatcher. She was also the first African American Administrative Assistant in the Building Inspections Department. She was an inspiration, a blessing, and a light to her family and to all who had the privilege to know and love her.
