died April 24, 2007 in Birmingham, Alabama. Bob was born November 6, 1921 in Pensacola, Florida to Henry P. and Clara Bell Hardee Gilmore; the youngest of four boys. Upon graduating from Pensacola High School in 1939 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While receiving training in Chicago, Illinois, he married Irene Belle Yount on November 16, 1943. During WWII he was stationed at Pearl Harbor. After serving 6 years in the Navy Bob attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree in Forestry. He earned a Doctorate Degree from Duke University in 1956 and was a National Science Scholar. He retired in 1984 as Professor Emeritus from the University of Illinois at Urbana, Illinois. He moved to Dadeville, Alabama in 1984 where he lived on Lake Martin until 2006 when he and his wife moved to Birmingham, Alabama. He is survived by his wife Irene, one daughter, Roberta Jane Brown and one son, Andrew R. Gilmore, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Living Waters at Stillwaters in Dadeville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Church of the Living Waters.
