Albert Gray Thornton

Albert Gray Thornton, of Homewood, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the age of 95.  A Homewood native, Mr. Thornton was born September 24, 1923, the son of William J. Thornton and Ada Blanche Thornton.  Mr. Thornton was a graduate of the University of Miami and a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.  In the US Army, he served in Normandy and the German Occupation in WWII.  He owned Thornton Realty in Coral Gables, FL before retirement.  Mr. Thornton was an avid bird watcher, painter, and opera singer.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Maurece Glass Thornton; his brother, William Thornton (composer/professor); and his parents.  He is survived by his nieces, Sherry Glass, Gay Miller, Lisa Sundy, and Terri Owen.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 - 11:00, Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover.  Funeral will follow in the chapel at 11:00.  Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
