Alberta Wooten

Mrs. Alberta Bearden Wooten, of Vestavia, AL, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the age of 93. She was one of twelve children. She was a life time resident of the Rocky Ridge Community where her father was a preacher and a dairyman of Bearden Dairies. She met her husband of 66 years, Leon Wooten, Sr., at Shades Cahaba High School. They settled in Rocky Ridge and opened and operated Rocky Ridge Grocery and Shell community grocery in 1947. They retired in 2000.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leon Wooten, Sr., who passed away in 2005, and her grandson and caregiver, Jacob A. Wooten.
She is survived by a son, Leon Wooten, Jr. (Debbie) of Cropwell, AL, two daughters, Frances Vibbart of Huntsville, AL and Barbara Powell (Steve) of Vestavia, AL, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a brother, Herbert Bearden of Ashville, AL, and a sister, Inez Gorman of Pell City, AL.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 8, 2015, from 12-1 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1 PM in the chapel with Dr. Earl Tew and Dr. Greg Corbin officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Lakeside Baptist Church.
