age 79, of North Shelby County, passed away on October 13th, 2005. Vernon was preceeded in passing by his loving wife Barbara after 56 years of marriage. He is survived by his three sons and their families, Michael and Lee Ann Perkins of North Shelby County, Marlin and Susan Perkins of Westlake, Ohio, and LTC Dennis Perkins and his wife Teresa of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Other survivors include 6 granddaughters: Carrie Taylor of Pelham, Alabama, Lindsey, Kendra and Andrea Perkins of Westlake, Ohio, and Callie and Lauren Perkins of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and 2 grandsons: Bradley Perkins of Birmingham and Kyle Perkins of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Mr. Perkins is also survived by one sister, Clarinell McReynolds of Leeds, Alabama. Vernon was a veteran of WWII and a soldier in the Army of Occupation of Japan following the war. A native of Leeds, Alabama, Vernon retired as a locomotive engineer from US Steel after 41 years of service in 1989. He immensely enjoyed his thirteen years of coaching his sons and their many friends in little league baseball in Fairfield, AL. Vernon and Barbara traveled extensively over the last thirty years visiting all 50 states and many European countries. He was a member of Helena United Methodist and the Virginia Tucker Sunday School Class. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 16th, 2005, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral services will be on Monday, October 17th, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Barbara Harper and Rev. Marvin McCormick officiating.
