BOWEN, ALBERT SIDNEY age 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior while at home in Hoover Wednesday, August 23, 2006. He was born August 7, 1918 in Fulton, MS and moved to Alabama after serving in WWII in the Army Air Corp of Engineers. Mr. Bowen was stationed in the Pacific Theater and participated in the invasion of Okinawa. He was a 32 degree Shriner,and a member of the Calvert Lodge in Calvert City, KY. He was involved in coal surface mining from 1947-2002, owning several coal companies over the years. Mr. Bowen was a long time member of Shades Mountain Independent Church and constructed the athletic field for the SMI school. He was a scholarship donor for the University of Alabama. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather,and is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nelda Bowen; four daughters, Linda Carter and husband, Jerry, of Tuscaloosa, Karyn Bowen, of Hoover, Nancy Weinard, of Hoover and Vicki Hill and husband, Roger, of Jasper; eight grandchildren, Pete Allen, Kelly Peevy, Kim Payne, Staci Hannig, Jeff Carter, Chad Hill, Brandon Hill and Trent Hill; thirteen great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard E. Bowen, of Mt. Olive. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 25, 2006, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Harry Walls and Dr. Lowell Vann officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. The family wishes to express a special thanks to New Beacon Hospice and Sheila. Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home directing.
