Kristi Ann Metz, age 32, was called home to be with Jesus on December 27, 2021, surrounded by her family in Birmingham, Alabama. Kristi graduated from Spain Park High School in 2008, where she was a member of the school’s show choir. She had such a love for music and was always singing. Over the years she played the guitar and sang solos in church. Kristi graduated from the University of Alabama in 2012 with a degree in Marketing. While in college, Kristi met the love of her life, Jonathan Metz, in the Calvary Baptist Church choir in Tuscaloosa. Kristi and Jon were married in 2012 and were true soulmates. Kristi was a member of Valleydale Church, where she was very involved, including volunteering in the nursery. Kristi’s beautiful red hair, infectious smile, and sweet friendly personality were but a few of her many attributes that drew people in. She was a ‘Daddy’s girl’ from the day she was born and remained so throughout her life. To her daddy, Kristi will always be his ‘Punkin’.
In 2018, Kristi and Jon welcomed their son Jack into their family, followed by their daughter Savannah in 2020. Kristi was a terrific wife and mother and she loved Jon and her children with her whole heart. Frequent trips to the park, McWane Center, and the zoo were always on the agenda. She worked at Samford University as the Assistant to the Vice President for Marketing and Communication. She had also started her own successful interior design business called Iron City Design. Kristi loved helping others remodel their homes. She loved Alabama football and hosted family game days at their house. Even though Kristi was extremely busy with raising a family and work, she always found time to give to others. She made others feel special and God’s light so clearly shined through her wherever she went. She lived her life with faith and joy every day.
Kristi is survived by her loving husband Jon, her children Jack and Savannah, parents Linda and Steve Borden, parents-in-law Melanie and Paul Metz, sister Melissa Gullatte (Daniel), brother Kevin Borden, grandmother Lola Borden and grandparents Harriett and Charley Branch, along with many special aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Kristi’s life will be held Monday, January 3, 2022 at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama. Visitation will be from 9:30am-11am, followed by a celebration of Kristi’s life at 11am. Pastor Mac Brunson will officiate.
To all who knew her, there is absolutely no doubt that she was welcomed into Jesus’s loving arms with a “Well done, thy good and faithful servant”. For those of us that remain, our great hope is God’s promise found in 1 Corinthians 15:51-52: “Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Sav-A-Life in Vestavia, Alabama.
